A note for parents, in plain language

KidGeeniers is a learning program for children ages 6–14, and our teaching model is deliberately screenless. Children learn with physical materials and a live mentor, not by feeding data into an app. That shapes this policy: we collect as little information about a child as we can, we never sell it, we never use it to advertise to your child, and a parent or guardian can ask us to show it or delete it at any time by writing to privacy@kidgeeniers.com.

1.Who we are

KidGeeniers is an educational program operated by Silicon Valley Futures Institute, LLC (“SVFI”, “KidGeeniers”, “we”, “us”), a California limited liability company with offices at 3000 El Camino Real, Building 4, Suite 200, Palo Alto, California 94306, United States.

For the purposes of the EU and UK General Data Protection Regulation, SVFI is the data controller for the information described in this policy. For the purposes of Mexico’s Ley Federal de Protección de Datos Personales en Posesión de los Particulares, SVFI is the responsable; our representative in Mexico is [MEXICAN ENTITY NAME AND ADDRESS].

2.Scope of this policy

This policy explains what personal information we collect through kidgeeniers.com, through enrollment and account creation, through our in-person and in-school programs, and through our communications with families, educators and partners. It applies to three groups of people:

  • Adults — parents, guardians, teachers, school administrators, mentors and partners who contact us, create an account, enroll a child or purchase from us.
  • Children — students aged 6 to 14 who take part in a KidGeeniers program.
  • Visitors — anyone who simply browses our website.

It does not cover the practices of schools, districts or authorized centers that run their own enrollment systems, or of third-party sites we link to. Those organizations have their own privacy policies.

3.Information we collect

3.1 Information you give us

CategoryExamplesWhose

CorrespondenceMessages you send us, support requests, survey and feedback responsesAdult

Information marked Child is provided to us by a parent, guardian or an authorized school — never collected directly from a child online. We ask families to give us a child’s first name or a nickname only. We do not ask for a child’s home address, phone number, personal email address, government identifier, biometric data or precise location, and we ask you not to send them.

Sensitive information. Allergy and accessibility information is health-related and, under Mexican and European law, sensitive. We collect it only when you choose to provide it, use it only to keep your child safe and included, and share it only with the mentor and center running your child’s session.

3.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit our website we and our service providers collect standard technical data: IP address, browser and device type, operating system, referring page, pages viewed and time spent, and identifiers stored in cookies or similar technologies. This is website data about the person browsing — in practice an adult. We do not run our website analytics or advertising tools inside any child-facing learning environment.

3.3 Information from other sources

We may receive your information from a school, district or authorized center that enrolls a group of students, from a partner that refers you to us, from our payment processor, and from public sources such as a school’s published staff directory when we contact educators professionally.

4.How we use information

  • To enroll a child, run the program, assign a mentor and manage schedules.
  • To issue certificates, badges and progress reports to the parent, guardian or school.
  • To keep children safe during sessions, including honoring allergy and accessibility needs.
  • To take payment, issue invoices and receipts, and handle refunds.
  • To answer your questions and provide support.
  • To send service messages about a program your child is enrolled in.
  • To send marketing about KidGeeniers to adults who have asked for it, and only until they unsubscribe.
  • To improve our curriculum and website, using aggregated or de-identified information wherever possible.
  • To meet legal, tax, accreditation and safeguarding obligations, and to establish or defend legal claims.

What we never do: we do not sell or rent personal information; we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising; we do not use a child’s information to target advertising to that child or to build an advertising profile of them; and we do not condition a child’s participation in a KidGeeniers activity on disclosing more information than is reasonably necessary for that activity.

4.1 Legal bases (EEA and UK)

  • Contract — enrollment, delivering the program, payment and support.
  • Legal obligation — tax, accounting, child-safeguarding and record-keeping duties.
  • Legitimate interests — securing our systems, preventing fraud, improving our programs, and contacting educators in a professional capacity, balanced against your rights.
  • Consent — marketing emails, non-essential cookies, push notifications, use of a child’s photograph or work, and any sensitive data such as allergy information. You can withdraw consent at any time.
  • Vital interests — a medical emergency during a session.

5.Children’s privacy and COPPA

Our programs are designed for children aged 6–14, so the United States Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the FTC’s amended COPPA Rule apply to information about children under 13. This section is our COPPA notice.

5.1 We do not collect personal information directly from children online

KidGeeniers is a screenless program. Children do not create accounts, do not log in, and are not asked to type personal information into our website. Everything we hold about a child reaches us from a parent, a guardian, or a school acting with parental authorization.

5.2 What we collect about a child, and why

First name or nickname; age or grade; program, schedule and location; attendance and progress; allergy, accessibility and emergency-contact details you choose to give us; and, only with separate written consent, photographs or video of a child taking part. We use this to run the program, keep the child safe, and report progress to you. We do not use it for advertising or profiling.

5.3 Verifiable parental consent

Before we collect information about a child under 13, we obtain verifiable parental consent through the enrollment process — a signed enrollment agreement, a consent form returned by email or post, or a payment-card transaction confirming an adult’s identity. You may consent to us collecting and using your child’s information without consenting to any disclosure of it to third parties; enrollment does not require the second consent. Photography and publication consent is always requested separately and is never required to take part.

5.4 Parental rights

At any time, a parent or guardian may ask us to: review the information we hold about their child; correct it; delete it; stop any further collection or use of it; or withdraw a consent previously given. Write to privacy@kidgeeniers.com from the email address on the enrollment record, or by post to the address in section 16. We will verify that you are the child’s parent or guardian before acting. Withdrawing consent may mean we can no longer provide the program safely, and we will tell you if that is the case.

5.5 Third parties who receive children’s information

We disclose a child’s information only to: the mentor and the authorized center or school delivering that child’s program; our hosting, scheduling and credentialing providers, acting under written contract on our instructions; and public authorities where the law requires it. We publish the specific categories of these recipients in section 9. None of them may use a child’s information for their own purposes.

5.6 Retention and deletion of children’s data

We keep a child’s information only as long as reasonably necessary for the specific purpose it was collected for — ordinarily for the duration of enrollment plus the period in section 11 — and then delete it. We do not keep it indefinitely.

5.7 Safeguards

We maintain a written information security program covering children’s data, with a designated coordinator, an annual risk assessment, technical and organizational safeguards, regular testing, and an annual review. Anyone working directly with children is subject to our safeguarding requirements and background-screening standards.

6.Schools, districts and authorized centers

When a school, district or authorized KidGeeniers center enrolls students, that institution acts as our client and, in most cases, provides consent on behalf of parents for the educational use of student information, as permitted under COPPA and applicable state student-privacy laws. In that arrangement we process student information only to deliver the program the institution has contracted for, we do not use it for any commercial purpose of our own, and we return or delete it at the institution’s request or at the end of the engagement. Parents whose child is enrolled through a school should contact the school first; we will assist the school in responding.

7.Cookies, analytics and notifications

Our website uses cookies and similar technologies in four categories:

  • Strictly necessary — sign-in, session security, shopping cart and load balancing. These cannot be switched off.
  • Preferences — language selection and display settings.
  • Analytics — aggregate statistics about how the site is used, so we can improve it.
  • Marketing — measuring the effectiveness of campaigns aimed at adults.

Analytics and marketing cookies are set only with your consent, which you give or refuse through the cookie banner and can change at any time via [COOKIE SETTINGS LINK]. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser, though strictly necessary cookies are required for the site to work. Because we do not sell or share personal information, there is no sale or sharing for an opt-out preference signal such as Global Privacy Control to act on; we still treat such a signal as a request to switch off non-essential cookies.

Push notifications. If you allow browser notifications, we use them only to send service and program updates to the adult account holder. Turn them off in your browser settings at any time.

8.Payments

Payments are processed by [PAYMENT PROCESSOR, e.g. Stripe, Inc.]. Your full card number, expiry date and security code are entered on the processor’s systems and are never stored on ours. We receive only the transaction result, the amount, the card brand and the last four digits, which we keep for accounting, refunds and fraud prevention. The processor handles your payment data as an independent controller under its own privacy policy.

9.When we share information

10.International transfers

We operate in the United States and Latin America, and our systems are hosted in the United States. If you are in Mexico, the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or elsewhere outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and processed in the United States, which may not offer the same level of protection as your home country. For transfers from the EEA and UK we rely on the European Commission’s Standard Contractual Clauses and the UK Addendum, together with additional safeguards. For transfers involving Mexico, we make the disclosures and obtain the consents required by the Ley Federal de Protección de Datos Personales en Posesión de los Particulares. You may request a copy of the relevant safeguards from privacy@kidgeeniers.com.

12.How we protect information

We use encryption in transit (TLS) and at rest, role-based access limited to staff who need it, multi-factor authentication on administrative accounts, hashed passwords, logged access, vendor security review, staff privacy and safeguarding training, and a documented incident-response plan. No system is perfectly secure, but if a breach affects your personal information we will notify you and the relevant authorities as the law requires.

13.Your privacy rights

Whoever you are and wherever you live, you may ask us to give you a copy of your information, correct it, delete it, or stop using it for marketing. Write to privacy@kidgeeniers.com. We answer within 30 days, and will tell you if we need longer. We will never charge you or treat you differently for exercising a right.

13.1 California (CCPA/CPRA)

California residents have the right to know the categories and specific pieces of personal information we collect, the sources, the purposes and the categories of third parties we disclose to; to delete personal information; to correct inaccurate information; to opt out of sale or sharing; to limit the use of sensitive personal information; and not to be retaliated against. We do not sell or share personal information, and we have not done so in the preceding 12 months — including the personal information of consumers we know to be under 16, which under California law could never be sold or shared without opt-in consent. Sections 3, 4, 9 and 11 above serve as our notice at collection. You may make a request yourself or through an authorized agent; we verify requests by matching the details you give us against our records.

13.2 EEA and UK (GDPR)

You have the rights of access, rectification, erasure, restriction, portability, objection (including to processing based on legitimate interests and to direct marketing at any time), and withdrawal of consent without affecting prior processing. We do not make decisions producing legal effects about you by automated means alone. You may complain to your national supervisory authority, or to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office.

13.3 Mexico (ARCO rights)

If you are in Mexico, you hold the ARCO rights — Acceso, Rectificación, Cancelación and Oposición — and the right to revoke your consent or to limit the use or disclosure of your data. Send your request to privacy@kidgeeniers.com with your name, a means of contacting you, proof of identity (or of a representative’s authority), a clear description of the data concerned, and any document that helps us locate it. The full details are in the Spanish-language Aviso de Privacidad on this page, which governs for data subjects in Mexico. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may bring the matter before the Secretaría Anticorrupción y Buen Gobierno.

14.Third-party links

Our site links to partner organizations, accreditation bodies and content platforms we do not control. Their privacy practices are their own, and we encourage you to read their policies before sharing information with them.

15.Changes to this policy

We update this policy when our practices or the law change. The date at the top always shows the current version. If a change materially affects how we handle a child’s personal information, we will notify parents and guardians directly and, where the law requires it, obtain fresh consent before the change takes effect.
